A classic pair of stockinette stitch trousers with a tie waist. Soft knitted trousers are one of the most comfortable garments for a little one to wear. 

The Elisenberg Trousers are knitted top-down. First, the waistband with a drawstring casing and tie string is knitted. Then, the back is shaped with short rows, knitted back and forth using German Short Rows. Increases are made for the gusset before the work is divided into two legs. The legs are knitted in the round on double-pointed needles with decreases.

Sizes: 0-3 (3-6) 6-12 months (1-2) 2-3 (3-4) 4-5 years
Waist circumference, ½ width: Approx. 20 (21.5) 23 (24.5) 26 (27.5) 29 cm
Technique: Stockinette stitch
Gauge: 24 stitches in stockinette stitch = 10 cm
Needle size: 3.5 mm / 40-60 cm circular needle and double-pointed needles
Yarn amount: Approx. 300 (300) 400 (500) 600 (700) 800 meters
Suggested yarn: Como/Lamana or Classic/Cardiff

For this pattern, you can use both Como/Lamana and Classic/Cardiff. You will need the following number of skeins: 

0-3 months: 2 skeins
3-6 months: 2-3 skeins
6-12 months: 3-4 skeins
1-2 years: 4 skeins
2-3 years: 5 skeins
3-4 years: 6 skeins
4-5 years: 7 skeins
